Connect your AVICS1 to your computer using the supplied USB cable and turn it on. Wait until your computer has detected your device. When you connect your device to the PC, in most cases ActiveSync will start automatically and will ask you to set-up a partnership.
Please select 'No' if this happens. On your computer, double-click the downloaded [update_V *_**_**. If the update process does not start automatically, open the folder containing the downloaded file by selecting 'Start' on the taskbar, and then selecting Run on the menu. Enter the location you saved the downloaded file and click OK. The update process will start automatically. Click OK and disconnect the AVIC-S1 from your PC.
Make sure that you have installed Pioneer Sync Manager from the DVD-ROM that was supplied with your device. If you have problems connecting your device, please visit the Microsoft support website.
During the update process, you should not disconnect the USB cable or the AC adapter, turn off the device, enter into standby mode, or reset the unit or shut down the computer, enter the computer into standby mode or restart the computer. Check that the update has been successful: Turn your AVIC-S1 on. Press [MENU] to enter the top menu. Touch 'Settings' tab, and then turn the pages to find the button 'Product Information' by touching the triangle mark at the bottom-right.

Hi, I've (Bluetooth) and am trying to get to the bottom of a few things, mainly whether one can upgrade the firmware on it. My investigations so far have lead me to believe that it's the same as the AVIC-Z2 in the USA that there seems to be much more information on (even a ) and most importantly to me a to fix a massively irritating issue where the unit keeps deciding to not boot up; there is no such upgrade option on the UK pioneer site. My questions on this are: • Has anyone got this unit and already gone on the voyage of discovery to get the F/W upgraded, or tried the US one or, am I simply the only one experiencing this issue? (Googling comes up with almost nothing on this unit that is UK related) • There is also apparently in the US an upgrade to the Z3 that gives upgraded functions (still looking into this) I see that there's a newer version of the HD3 out and was wondering if anyone has intel on the differences and whether the US Z2 upgrade would work on the HD3 I'll continue my investigations - next stop phoning pioneer - and post the results here. But would appreciate further info, even anecdotal, if anyone has it. Hi, it finally worked, don't know why. Burned the cd again, this time also switched from Joilet to ISO9660 and inserted the cd before starting the device. It updated, after reboot it says 'update failed, rebooting.' And it reboots, and again.
In an Australian forum I found the exact same problem with a HD3, support told him to disconnect it for 1-2 days, so some parts would lose their charge. Seemed like a long shot but actually worked, so I will try that now - since it seems to be exactly the same issue I am still hopeful;-).
